Try Tongue Scraping

Here is a simple way to instantly improve your oral health.

Tongue scraping has long been recommended in Ayurveda, the ancient Indian medical system that views health from a holistic perspective.

Modern oral health experts also believe that tongue scraping can help to remove harmful bacteria from the mouth. An excess of some types of bacteria can lead to cavities, gum disease, bad breath and more. Tongue scraping can also help to improve your sense of taste and give your mouth a very clean feeling.

It is simple and safe to try tongue scraping. Look for stainless steel models over plastic if possible.

How to practice tongue scraping:

  1. After brushing and flossing, place the tongue scraper on the back of your tongue. If your gag reflex is initiated, you can place the scraper in the middle of your tongue and slowly work your way further back.
  2. Gently move the scraper down towards the tip of your tongue without pressing or putting any pressure on it whatsoever. You do not want to press hard on the scraper. It should never hurt or feel uncomfortable.
  3. Rinse the scraper between each stroke.
  4. Cover the entire tongue twice, usually about 7-10 strokes.
  5. When finished, clean the scraper with warm water and soap. Let dry and then store in a clean place.
  6. You may do this every time you brush.
