Which city comes out on top with the highest scores in health and wellness?
The wellness company Mindbody examined this question in their annual Wellness Index.
A survey of 16,000 adults across 50 of the most populated US cities looked at “several factors including workout habits, commitment to sufficient sleep, stress levels, connection to community, and spirituality, among other wellness behaviors and attitudes.”
Using an algorithm based on the questionnaire, the company came up with their list, and the top spot may surprise you.
Although it may be most known for its nightlife and associated vices, Miami, Florida, ranked number one when it comes to the healthiest cities. And it is the third year in a row that the city claimed this spot. Residents scored high marks when it comes to being the least stressed and the most rested. They also had the highest number of residents who exercised at least once per week, over 80%. They spent the most at salons, spas, gyms, fitness centers, and other wellness businesses. And felt most connected to their community, which is an important marker of social wellness.
The top ten include:
1. Miami, Fla.
2. Los Angeles, Calif.
3. San Diego, Calif.
4. Atlanta, Ga.
5. Washington, D.C.
6. San Francisco, Calif.
7. San Jose, Calif.
8. Austin, Texas
9. Seattle, Wash.
10. Raleigh, N.C.
